“Chiang Rai White temple”
“White temple” is one of the well known name for Rong Khun Temple by the local Thai. The temple located on Phaholyotin Rd. ( Thailand Route No.1) about 14 kilometers from Chiang Rai city. It was built in late 1997 by Ajarn ( Professor) Chalermchai Kositpipat, who is well-know throughout Thailand. He wanted to built the most beautiful temple in the world and show the glory modern Thai Buddhist arts. With 80 team workers who devoted totally their effort and energy to make this structure their life work. The art works and the buildings in the temple ground are still ongoing as well as the paintings. They expected completely build in 2070. Admission to the wat compound is free for Thais and THB 50 for foreigners. Donations are accepted, but are not to exceed THB 10,000 as Chalermchai refuses to be influenced by big donors.
Using white color, He wants to build a temple that is different from the other temples that mostly in gold color. He believes that gold is suitable who lust for evil deeds. The Lord Buddha present the purity and has escaped from the world to Nirvana. He also uses the small mirrors to decorated on the building to present a symbol of the Lord Buddh’s wisdom ( The Dhama) that shines throughout the universe. In the temple area, not only the beautiful and outstanding White temple as its name. You could also walk around to see more building in the temple such as Hall of Masterwork, Souvenir Hall and the Golden Toilet.
This is the must when you are in Chiang Rai. If you are in Chiang Mai or even plan to visit in the northern Thailand, don’t forget to add this temple in to the list. You won’t believe how beautiful White temple is. By telling is not the best as seeing with your own eyes.
